Fetal RHD Screen Positive
What the result means
A "Positive" Fetal RHD screening result means that your baby is predicted to be RhD positive. This means that there is an RhD mismatch (incompatibility) between you and your baby.
Next steps
Your health-care provider will recommend RhD immune globulin (RhIG) treatment to prevent your body from making antibodies against your baby's RhD positive blood.
RhIG injection is given:

at 28 weeks of pregnancy
-
in situations where there is bleeding, trauma or if invasive tests are done in pregnancy (e.g. amniocentesis) and
-
after delivery.

At delivery
A small blood sample will be collected from the umbilical cord to confirm your baby’s RhD status. The results may be used to guide your need for RhIG treatment after birth and may be shared with the testing laboratory for quality checks.
